Mixed Media
Transfer of a photographic image by way of solvents onto various substrates; metallic papers, archival watercolor papers, masonite and canvas.
Application of gel medium (6 layers) onto a photographic image. The product is then immersed in water and paper backing is released, creating a translucent colour image. This decal is then applied to various substrates.
This process was originally created for the graphic arts industry. It was a manual way of proofing colour. The pieces that utilize this technique are created by painting various colour emulsion on archival paper, then exposing it to sunlight and developing with water. The resulting effects can never be duplicated due to the variation of elements, i.e. intensity of sunlight, temperature of water, thickness of emulsion, etc.
Acrylic polymer paint is used alone on canvas or masonite. It may also be painted on top of a solvent transfer or a gel medium decal piece. Acrylic varnish is then applied to protect each piece from light.
